Afghanistan-Pakistan Tensions Flare After Air Strikes
The defence ministry of Afghanistan has reported conducting overnight air strikes against alleged ISIS-Khorasan (ISIS-K) hiding sites in Pakistan's provinces of Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The government of Kabul accused these facilities of working together with "hostile intelligence circles" in planning operations against Afghanistan. The information ministry of Pakistan categorically dismissed this claim as untrue and countered by saying that the Taliban regime in Afghanistan was protecting more than two dozen terrorist organizations. The present offensive represents a serious escalation in hostilities between the two countries and is a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement signed in March which itself had broken down.
